I don't disagree with what you're both saying. "Friendlier" and "you never meet a stranger". And "relaxed" and "lazy". And the food and the culture, sure. I'm proud of where I grew up. Just last week I was singing New Orleans' praises to people heading off to Tulane for the first time. I've pondered my Southernness my whole life. I guess I just don't feel the connection with Louisiana as strongly as I once did, and haven't for many years. I love Denver and the Rocky Mountain west and feel it's a much better match for who I am now at this point in my life.

KD - yes, same town.

Interesting that both commenters come from Houston...

Louisiana will always be home...Southern culture draws lazy hot summer days on front porches. Warm people and lots of Family. You never meet a stranger.

I believe I grew up in the same small town as you. Gause Blvd was a dirt road upon our family's arrival. Same town?

I return home every through out the year. Houston is only 5 hours away... :)

1. The people in the South are friendlier (when they're not calling you "Boy!" or trying to murder you).
2. Everything is a lot more relaxed
3. Good food
4. Lots of culture
5. 'Cuz it's 'Nawlins!
